Ecotoxicology is essential for evaluating the effects of industrial processes on the environment. Bureau Veritas operates three dedicated ecotoxicology laboratories in Canada. Our team of experts has experience conducting toxicity testing using more than 25 different species of bacteria, algae, plants, invertebrates and fish. Our goal is to be your first choice for both routine and customized toxicity testing programs for evaluation of effluents, sediment, soil, and chemical substances.

Our team of ecotoxicologists provides services ranging from permit bioassay to compliance with MDMER to projects requiring customized experimental design and interpretive toxicology reporting.

  • ACUTE & SUBLETHAL TESTS

    Bureau Veritas offers both freshwater and marine toxicity tests for effluent discharge compliance and environmental effects monitoring programs. Toxicity tests are conducted in accordance with the relevant Environment Canada, US EPA, or OECD/OCSPP methods. Some of the most commonly conducted acute and sublethal tests are:

    Acute Toxicity Tests:

  • FRESHWATER & MARINE TESTING

    Bureau Veritas provides effective tools for assessing toxicity sources associated with marine and fresh water sediments. We have considerable experience in testing:

    • Sediments from contaminated sites
    • Dredged sediments slated for disposal at sea
    • For determination of bioaccumulation potential in dredged sediments
  • TOXICITY IDENTIFICATION & TOXICITY REDUCTION EVALUATIONS

    Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TIE) and Toxicity Reduction Evaluation (TRE) are used when clients need to identify and remove the toxic components in a chemical mixture such as an effluent.

    The TIE is a site‐specific study to isolate, identify, and confirm the causative agents of toxicity in an effluent or sediment. Bureau Veritas conducts TIE based on procedures promulgated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). The TRE procedure is used as a tool to identify toxic components that may be removed or reduced in an industrial effluent to alleviate toxicity problems. It is usually necessary to complete a TIE before performing the TRE.
