NBIC Repairs & Alterations - Virtual (3 days)

WHO THE COURSE IS FOR?

This course will be helpful for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of how to make repairs or alterations to the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC). It is especially helpful for those who are taking their first steps into the NBIC world. We will review significant changes approved for publication in the new code Editions.

COURSE CONTENTS

This course provides instruction on the organization and use of the NBIC. Included will be introduction to the National Board (NB) system, objectives and functions of the NB, jurisdictional precedence, introduction to the ASME and their codes and accreditation programs and will include: Accreditation Programs, Definitions of “Construction Standards”, Authorized Inspection Agencies (AIA) and Authorized Inspectors (AI), Accreditation Processes, Requirements for and an Outline of a Quality Control System, Welding and Post Weld Heat Treatment Requirements, Requirements for Repairs and Alterations, Repairs and Alterations Examination and Testing, Certification, Documentation and Stamping of Repairs and Alterations, General Discussion / Question and Answer Sessions

This live virtual class will be made up of 3 (4 hour days).  The course is live and will be conducted via Microsoft TEAMS. We will start at 11 AM ET and will end around 3 PM ET.

Her career spans four years in third-party welding qualifications, 27 years at a global ASME pressure vessel manufacturer, and three years with an Authorized Inspection Agency, during which she held progressive leadership roles including Quality Engineer and Engineering Manager. Since 2013, she has been actively involved in ASME and National Board Codes & Standards Committees, developing comprehensive quality programs under ASME, PED, and ISO standards while earning recognition for her unique ability to translate complex technical requirements into accessible insights.

Roger Smith, AI, IS, ANI, ANII - With over 40 years of comprehensive experience in electrical generation, Roger is a distinguished expert in nuclear and boiler power plant engineering, bringing extensive expertise from his 18-year tenure as a National Board Commissioned Authorized Inspector. His professional journey includes critical inspection services for nuclear power plants, US Navy instruction, and jurisdictional inspections in the Seattle area, during which he developed and implemented detailed procedures and quality control programs adhering to ASME, B31, NBIC, and international codes. Beyond his technical mastery in vessel design, nondestructive examination, and welding technology, Roger is renowned for his passion for continuous learning and ability to translate complex engineering standards into practical, real-world insights.
