These design reviews can follow various patterns depending on the type of equipment, the standard being enforced, and the expectations for the level of independent oversight. As licensed Professional Engineers, BVNAM is capable of endorsing the design of critical components, such as those used in subsea oil & gas installations. This type of P.E. endorsement may be required by regulations, or it may be desired by a user—either way, BVNAM has the expertise and qualifications needed to help.

  • Offshore Skid and Container Certification

Offshore facilities—platforms, vessels, FPSOs, and more—are always concerned about the safety and reliability of the equipment on board. Almost everything comes to an offshore facility in a “skid,” a dedicated container or enclosed unit to protect the equipment and enable portability. These offshore skids should be certified as compliant with one (or more) of several safety standards:

    • DNVGL-ST-E271, 2.7-1 (for containers), DNVGL-ST-E272, 2.7-2 (for service modules), and DNVGL-ST-E273, 2.7-3 (for other portable offshore units)
    • EN12079-1 and EN12079-2
    • ISO 10855-1 and ISO 10855-2

Bureau Veritas can provide the engineering review, witness the inspection and testing of both prototypes and final products, provide marking plates as needed, and issue the certificates required.

  • SI-913 Certification of Mobile Equipment

Statutory Instrument 1996 No. 913 (SI-913) is an important safety regulation for offshore work in the North Sea. It requires that independent and competent persons perform examination to ensure that the well is designed, constructed, and maintained safely. Our experienced team acts as an independent partner and can provide services worldwide to manufacturers, service companies, and operators to contribute towards full compliance with SI-913, the SCR05, and similar voluntary verification schemes. Services cover:

    • Design verification and issuance of Independent Review Certificate (IRC).
    • Verification during fabrication to assure conformance with approved design, including issuance of a Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
    • In-service verification for mobile assets in accordance with approved verification procedures, and yearly endorsement of a Record of Examination (RoE).
  • Wellhead and BOP certification to API Spec 6A

The equipment at the surface of oil & gas wells is critically important for the safety of drilling, completions, and production operations. Bureau Veritas can help equipment suppliers prove the safety and reliability of their equipment by certifying it to the industry standards that the customer expects. These include API Specification 6A for wellhead and the associated equipment, API Specification 8C for lifting equipment used, NACE MR0175 (ISO 15156) for materials used in sour service, and other industry- and customer specifications.

  • Certification of Chemical Storage Tanks to API 650

The installation of a large chemical storage tanks represents a huge investment and a long-term commitment. Making sure that the tank is designed the right way is not just a regulatory requirement, it’s a non-negotiable expectation.

BVNAM has the experienced engineers that can provide a review of a chemical storage tank to make sure that it meets all the requirements given in the industry standard, API 650. This will give you confidence that the tank will perform properly now and throughout its useful life.

  • Certification of Material to EN 10204 Type 3.2

The European standard EN 10204 outlines many requirements for raw metallic materials, giving two different levels of quality oversight in Type 3.1 (the lower) and Type 3.2 (the higher). Many critical components are required to be made from the Type 3.2-certified material, increasing the confidence level that the equipment will behave as it was designed.

Full Type 3.2 certification requires third-party involvement from the very beginning, even to witnessing tests out of the ladle. Bureau Veritas can certainly help with the right inspectors and engineers involved to cover the full supply chain in this way.

However, many distributors and stockists find it difficult to source true Type 3.2 materials, making it a challenge to get critical components manufactured. BVNAM is able to provide a certification of Type 3.1 material that meets the intent of the Type 3.2 requirements by witnessing additional sampling and testing, doing additional documentation review, and tracking the material with proper traceability. This is not a Type 3.2 certificate—the rules of EN 10204 have not been met for that level of oversight—but some end-users may accept the additional testing program as a sufficient substitute for real Type 3.2 certification when that isn’t available. BVNAM can help increase the confidence you have with the material that’s available.

  • Certified Verification Agent

A large installation, whether it be an oil and gas platform, a subsea pipeline, or an onshore distribution facility, is subject to many complex regulations designed to keep the people and the environment safe. The regulator often requires the owner of an installation like that to work with an independent company that can verify all the rules have been met. BVNAM has decades of experience being certified by various governmental bodies as the verification agent that outlines what must be done, witnesses the critical tests and confirmations, and reviews the documentation to be sure that the facility will be safe and functional.

  • BSEE I3P Services

Since the tragic blowout at Macondo in 2010, the regulations for drilling offshore wells in the Gulf of Mexico have undergone close scrutiny and widespread changes. This not only requires the operators to design and document their plans with an eye to ensuring well integrity, but also expects critical equipment suppliers to be transparent about their adherence to industry best practices. For critical, high-risk operations (e.g. high-pressure, high-temperature, or HPHT), Independent 3rd Parties (I3P) are expected to review the equipment design and verify proper manufacture and testing. Bureau Veritas can perform these independent third-party reviews to provide confidence in the equipment used.

  • Risk & Safety Analysis

Risk is something we want to avoid, but almost every operation carries with it some risk of personnel and environmental danger. Prudence (and often regulations) dictate that we gain an accurate understanding of the risks our facilities are exposed to, and do what we can to mitigate those risks.

There are multiple ways to improve our risk profile, starting with simply identifying those risks via a structured Hazard Identification (HAZID) process. Using the risks identified BVNAM can help perform a Hazard & Operability (HAZOP) study that digs into the design and operation of a facility to understand every barrier and process that might lower the risks and/or minimize the consequences of any hazard.

Learn More - Click Here To VIEW The Service Sheet

Where some risk studies, such as HAZOPs, are largely qualitative, an even more scientific view can be gained when numbers are associated with every risk and mitigation. BVNAM has both the experts and the tools needed to quantify risk levels and recommend improvements that will lower that risk in a demonstrable way. These Quantitative Risk Analyses (QRAs) provide confidence that risk mitigation money is being spent in the right way to get the safest facility.

  • Reliability, Availability, & Maintainability (RAM) Studies

A well-designed and properly implemented asset optimization program can significantly lower your production costs and reduce the risk of downtime. RAM modelling assesses a production system’s capabilities, whether it is in operation or still in the design phase. The results from RAM modelling will identify possible causes of production losses and examine possible alternatives that will keep you running.
