ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 General Overview - In Person (3 days)

OBJECTIVES

  • Describe elements related to requirements for a pressure vessel
  • Explain material requirements and where to find them in the code
  • Discuss the importance of applying proper variables to the design formulas
  • Recognizing toughness requirements and exemptions
  • Determining post-weld heat treatment requirements and exemptions
  • Understanding the design competency rules of Appendix 47
  • Describe hydrostatic and pneumatic testing requirements
  • Explain stamping and data report requirements
  • Code Edition changes will be discussed for the current year.

WHO THE COURSE IS FOR?

Manufacturers, users, owners, constructors, designers, quality control personnel and others concerned with the design, fabrication assembly, examination, inspection, testing and certification of pressure vessels.  Code Edition changes will be discussed for the current year.

 

COURSE CONTENTS

Through interactive discussion, this course provides a general overview of how to apply ASME Section VIII Division 1 rules for the construction of pressure vessels. The course agenda includes the organization of the code book, responsibilities of various parties, design concepts, material requirements, fabrication rules, examinations done by the Manufacturer, inspections done by the Inspector, testing requirements, stamping, and final certification. We will also discuss Quality Control System requirements, and how to complete a data report. This class is for anyone wanting a top-level understanding of Section VIII Div. 1.


Note: Payment must be received prior to the first day of the course to attend. 

A Certificate of Attendance with professional development hours (PDH) is issued.  *The training seminars will be held from 8 AM to 4:00 PM local time. Attendees are responsible for their own hotel rooms. If a special room rate is available, we will send you that information.

Each attendee will receive a copy of the course material. Please bring your Laptop to class and your latest Section VIII, Div. 1 Code Book.

Instructor Bios:

Stacey Marks, PE, CWI, AI - With 34 years of distinguished expertise in welding and pressure vessel engineering, Stacey is a Professional Engineer, Certified Welding Inspector, and Authorized Inspector who has made significant contributions across multiple industry domains. Her career spans four years in third-party welding qualifications, 27 years at a global ASME pressure vessel manufacturer, and three years with an Authorized Inspection Agency, during which she held progressive leadership roles including Quality Engineer and Engineering Manager. Since 2013, she has been actively involved in ASME and National Board Codes & Standards Committees, developing comprehensive quality programs under ASME, PED, and ISO standards while earning recognition for her unique ability to translate complex technical requirements into accessible insights.
