Bureau Veritas offers a variety of schools dedicated to providing a practical, integrated approach to managing the integrity and performance of downhole drilling tools in any given condition. Bureau Veritas has developed robust courses derived from accumulated data, drilling expertise, QA/QC experience, and drilling engineering and analysis capabilities for over 30 years.  This wealth of knowledge places us in a unique position to share it with operators, drilling contractors, and vendors by providing detailed and focused training courses based around the continually evolving Bureau Veritas DS-1® Standard.  Our training department offers a variety of schools dedicated to providing a practical, integrated approach to learning.

DS-1 Volumes 3 & 4 Inspector &Vendor Personnel Certification

Standard DS-1® is an industry standard that ensures the quality of inspection and qualification work when followed correctly. The 2-day DS-1 Volumes 3 & 4 course will familiarize inspectors and vendor personnel with what’s in the books, how to find the information they need, and why those procedural requirements are important in preventing structural failures.


The Standard

• The history of the standard and why it was needed
• The purpose of DS-1 in all four volumes


Volume 3 (Drill Stem Inspection)

• Understanding the content in a high-level way and finding what you need
• Drill pipe and BHA inspection categories and methods
• How to read DS-1 and perform a high-quality inspection
• Practice hands-on inspections to make sure both the inspection procedures and the acceptance criteria can be pulled from the standard’s pages


Volume 4 (Specialty Tools)

• How Volume 4 is different from other standards
• Finding and understanding what is required
• Review mud motors as an example of specialty tool qualification
• Applying the standard’s requirements to other inspection and qualification examples

Certification
Each student who passes the final examination will be awarded a DS-1 Training Certificate.

DS-1 Distance Learning

For decades the DS-1® Fourth Edition course has been one of the foremost classes in drill string design and failure prevention. We’ve always combined solid engineering experience, an industry-wide knowledge base, and engaging instruction to provide a great training experience.

The truth is, while training will continue to be a key part of the competency and education process of everyone in the drilling industry, the landscape in which that training is offered has changed. The cost of training, including all the overhead expense of travel and lodging, is becoming intolerable. The people who need the training are scattered all over the world.
There are fewer and fewer experienced people to teach them.

Here at Bureau Veritas, we’ve committed ourselves to provide the industry with a distance-learning option for training people to prevent failures and we refuse to compromise.

Students of the DS-1 Distance Learning course will be able to learn what they need to know about failure prevention, all without leaving their office. The cost is $1,975 per student, which includes an electronic copy of the DS-1 Standard and an exclusive set of helpful software tools.

Rig Crew Failure Prevention

The objective of the Rig Crew Failure Prevention training is to promote improvements in rig practices for running, handling, storing, and maintaining rig equipment. The four-hour class is directed at all levels from floor hand to rig superintendent.


By promoting constructive dialogue among rig personnel at all levels in a classroom environment, many questions and concerns can be addressed and resolved that daily operations and the pressures of time constraints and meeting drilling goals may place on the back burner. To alleviate this we can provide training which provides participants with a basic understanding of failure mechanisms, their common causes, and the procedures which can be applied to minimize their effect on the drilling process. This is developed by emphasizing the critical aspects of failure recognition and prevention which is covered by our formal training course based on the DS-1.
