  • Product Safety

    Product Safety

    Image

Product Safety is undeniably one of the most important criteria for electrical and electronic products. The safety of the products and users, intended use conditions, and environment are some of the key elements of safety considerations. There are many global product safety regulations that manufacturers need to fulfill to demonstrate compliance when marketing their products.  Failure to meet, the manufacturer could face legal and business consequences.  Brand Image and Reputation that have been carefully nurtured for years can be tainted rapidly as a large recall or a customer injury suit can wipe out a multitude of merchant smart plays in one stroke.

Bureau Veritas can help manufacturers to get their products smoothly into the global market. We have the required expertise, accreditations, global network, and tools to navigate our clients from the beginning to the end of the project. When third-party product safety testing and certification are required, which involves a highly experienced independent third party to scrutinize prototype designs or early production samples and screen out significant errors that even the most diligent design houses may miss.

The Bureau Veritas Littleton Test laboratory is accredited to cover a variety of product categories: Laboratory Equipment (61010 series), Information Technology Equipment (62368 series), Renewable Energy Products (UL1741), Household Products (60335 series), Medical Electrical Devices (60601, 80601 series), Laser (60825-1, -2, FDA CDRH) and many more.  Our services include but are not limited to Construction Evaluation, Testing, Report Compilation, Pre-Compliance Reviews, On-Site Standard Training, Factory Inspections, and Certification.

  • Cybersecurity

    Cybersecurity

    Image

Cybersecurity has become a concern for the electrical and electronic devices which are connected to the internet. Those devices can communicate with other devices through the internet that can be a potential risk of data breach. The IoT (Internet of Things) system facilitates this data exchange with the collective network of connected devices. Currently the IoT system is embedded into Household, Medical, and Industrial Control equipment and devices.

Bureau Veritas Littleton can help to address cyber security requirements called out mainly in ANSI UL 2900 and IEC 62443-x-x.

  • Global Market Access

    Global Market Access

    Image

Global Market Access (GMA) is determining applicable international regulations and verifying product compliance to those regulations.  This process can be complex and intimidating and the consequences of non-compliance can result in impounding product or denied access exposing manufacturers to potential field related and/or legal issues.

When considering GMA, it impacts almost every aspect of your product – Safety, EMC, Wireless, RoHS, Cybersecurity, and Energy & Environmental. And as products become more complex, so do the regulations. Bureau Veritas' dedicated GMA team will be your partner in this tedious process and undertake the burden of everything - from helping you with the applications, submitting applications, collect and review required documentation, and consistent communications/follow-up with foreign approval agencies.

Bureau Veritas provides guidance on the compliance requirements and approval strategy for each country. With our multiple global lab locations and our global network, we perform product testing to the current applicable standards as well as new requirements.

    • Bespoke solutions: Research is conducted on each product to confirm the correct data and reports are submitted for each country so that approvals can be granted efficiently,

This program was initiated to give customers more time and progress control over their product testing and evaluation by qualifying their test laboratories under the BVDAP program to support their desired relevant certification.  The overall program is based on a combination of ISO/IEC 17025 and Bureau Veritas’ Quality Process requirements and procedures. This program has four phases:

    Phase

       Action

    I

All or a few applicable tests are carried out by BV NRTL’s qualified engineer at the client’s site through the usage of NRTL’s Test Equipment, or the client’s test equipment, or a combination of both.

    II

Partial or full witness testing that includes witnessing through live video streaming is to be carried out by the client’s laboratory personnel in front of the BV-qualified engineer through the usage of the client’s test equipment.

    III

Partial or full testing is carried out by the client’s lab without witnessing.

    IV

Client’s lab completes construction review report, tests, and prepares BVTR.

BV’s engineering group will assess clients’ laboratories and confirm the suitability of each phase. BV will then walk clients through the process to ensure a smooth transition.

  • Risk Management Evaluation

    Risk Management Evaluation

    Image

Risk management has always been integral to device design and development activities. Still, it hasn't always been required to demonstrate to third-party assessment teams and laboratories during compliance evaluations to standards.

Risk assessment is a tool used in medical devices, industrial control systems, machines, and process control equipment. The purpose is to reduce risk to an acceptable level through a standardized approach, such as Fault Tree, FMEA, etc.

The publication of ISO 14971 for medical devices (and similar process standards for other industries) established a framework for risk analysis, evaluation, control, and review to apply during product design, development, and monitoring during production and post-production of the device or system.

Risk management evaluations are often performed as part of the CB scheme and/or NRTL certification projects; however, preliminary compliance evaluations against published standard requirements may also be performed before "certification-ready" submissions. Risk management is a key step in determining your product's essential performance, which greatly impacts both the Safety and EMC testing of your product and helps define acceptable and unacceptable risks related to performance characteristics.

Bureau Veritas Littleton performs risk management evaluations to show conformance to such standards, including ISO 14971, 60601-1, 61010-1, etc.

  • Pre-Compliance Testing / Evaluation

    Pre-Compliance Testing / Evaluation

    Image
    evaluation

Pre-compliance evaluations (or “design reviews”) are highly customizable projects often scoped based on your current needs or to discuss possible changes to your product design with standards experts. If you don't have an internal Regulatory or Compliance team or standards experts at your company, these may be right for you.

Partner with our subject matter experts to discuss your pending engineering change orders and component obsolescence challenges to see how they may impact compliance with your end-product standards.

Spend a day researching applicable safety standards, reviewing your electrical isolation strategies, identifying the minimum requirements for means of protection (MOOPs / MOPPs, basic, reinforced, etc.) between parts of your system, or drafting a critical components list with our engineers. The choice is yours, and we're ready to help!

With subject matter experts in different standards and categories, BV Littleton can support design reviews in the product's development phases. The intent is to ensure that all applicable clauses of the standard comply if needed for the product's construction. This may ease the compliance path to the applicable standard(s).
